Preface

Welcome.
I assume that by reading this, you know me in some capacity. By knowing me, you understand that I am in no way a pompous self-promoter. I am not so delirious to think that you are interested in knowing my every thought and movement; whether my (as yet to be born...or conceived for that matter) kid just pooped in the kitchen..ugh!, or weather work is soo slow today, I hate my boss and I can't wait to get home to watch the Batchlorette; or that I'm eating @ La Puta's Mexican Restaurant...mmmmm! (A la Twitter..for the clueless). In other words, this attempt at maintaining a blog is not meant to be a bombastic account of my life. Rather, it is my last attempt at maintaining a proper travel "journal". I've made concerted efforts to document my travels in the past, however, the frequency and quality of entries have decreased to the point where blank pages dominate my notebooks. I've found the only way I've remained diligent in documenting my experiences is when writing my family via email. By using this blog, I hope to commit to writing more often as it provides a much easier medium with which to share pictures and stories with family and friends.

So..."Why India?" I've been asked that a lot lately. No one ever asked me "why Thailand, or Peru, or Spain, or Argentina." Its seems most people have a negative, or at most, an apathetic perception of India. These opinions must have been garnered through fictitious portrayals in movies, a friend of a friend who's been there, or some other impersonal reference. While I could be discouraged, I can't help but be drawn by the immense diversity- in every aspect of life-that India will offer. The Taj Mahal, The Ganges, Kashmir, The Himalayas, British, Gandhi, Buddhism, Islam, Hindu, The Caste System,Bollywood, Poverty, Cow Shit, Trance, Goa, Yoga, Gurus...the list goes on. It will be frustrating and peaceful, disgusting and beautiful, chaotic and tranquil and without question, a unique experience. My unique experience.

You are such a good writer! Another exciting adventure. I really appreciate your attitude in exploring the unknown...all that's good and bad.

Hey John, I am enjoying your messages. The old Red Fort looked very interesting. The market looked similar to some I visited in Saudi Arabia, however, the Indian variety looks much larger. I'm anxious to hear about your train ride. Was there A/C and did it work? Stay off the tops of the cars. I recall seeing pictures of folks clinging to the tops and sides of the railcars. I believe that was India. Take care.

India has arguably one of the richest cultures in the world and it is one of the poorest countries in the world. A lot of beauty shines through.
